We are happy to announce that the ‘10th International Nitrocellulose Symposium’ and the ‘13th Heat Flow Calorimetry Symposium on Energetic Materials’ will be held 15-19th September 2025, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Both symposia will be combined in one week.

Both conferences share a long history as specialized symposia considering the topics of nitrocellulose (NC), its manufacturing, processing, and characterization, as well as the effects, use, interpretation, and modelling of heat flow of energetic materials.

The International Nitrocellulose Symposium is a technical meeting, an informal and friendly forum for discussing all aspects of nitrocellulose supply, characterisation and ageing.  It started in 2001 and was originally an informal UK working group interested in nitrocellulose characterisation, particularly on molecular weight determination.  It has been sponsored and hosted by AWE, UK MOD, Cranfield University, Rheinmetall Nitrochemie, and TNO in subsequent years. The meeting has grown to a truly international meeting with 100+ delegates.

Previous themes have included: Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) Analysis • Chemical and physical characterisation • Chemical stability, ageing, and shell life • Cellulose supply • Nitrocellulose manufacturing, processing and supply • Propellant manufacture • Propellant ballistics • Disposal • International standardisation and national test methodologies (including updates on international round robins in support of STANAG 4178 ed2).
