Characterising the raw materials used in formulating products is a vital step to understanding and controlling the process. As technologies move forward so do measurement techniques and there are now an increasing number of methods for characterising these raw materials. In particular increases in ‘Nano’ material formulations have led to new methods of measurement and development of existing methods to provide the particle information needed. The various options available to make these measurements are discussed in relation to the information required.
